Founder's note

Built by a kid who wouldn't stop opening things.

From age 8, I'd take apart radios, hairdryers, remote-control cars — not to break them, to understand them. My room was wires and half-finished circuits. Every blinking LED felt like proof I could make something real.

Then my family moved. And moved again. With each move, more of my electronics got left behind. By the last one, everything was gone. I stopped building. I stopped dreaming. I forgot who I was.

One day, standing in a grocery store aisle, it caught up with me. The noise, the routine, the lifelessness of it. I broke down — not from what had happened, but from what hadn't.

So I started again. A small robotics group. Simple circuits, buttons, lights. Then PICAXE. Then line-following robots. Then Arduino — and that changed everything. Suddenly I could program lights that changed colour, screens that talked back, sensors that brought projects to life.

The questions parents actually ask.

What age is this for?

Honestly? Same answer as woodworking or learning guitar — there isn't really one.

It's real Arduino, the same platform engineers and university students use. Anyone starting from zero will be lost in week 1 and capable by week 5. The youngest student we've seen complete it was 6 years old. The oldest was in his 80s. They built the same 25 projects.

If your kid can read and follow steps, they can do this. If they can't yet, do it together — many parents and grandparents tell us this is their favourite thing about it.

Do I need to know anything about electronics or coding?

No. The curriculum teaches everything from "what is an LED" to "here's the C++ code that controls it." Diagrams, line-by-line code explanations, and a "what's actually happening" walkthrough for every project.

Your job is to watch your kid figure something out. If they get stuck, they send a photo of the circuit. We reply within 24 hours.

What computer do they need?

The programming has to be done from a Windows or Mac computer (or Linux). The Arduino IDE is free. Phones and tablets work for reading the curriculum, but not for uploading code to the Arduino. iPhones and iPads can't be used for programming at all — that's an Arduino limitation, not ours.

Is this a subscription? Do I need to finish in 25 weeks?

No to both. $199 one-time. No monthly billing, no auto-renewal, no expiry on access.

The "25 weeks" is just the natural pace if your kid does one project a week. You can take longer or go faster. Some kids do four projects in a weekend. Some take a year. Some pause for school terms and pick it up in summer. The lessons stay in your account permanently — log in any time and keep building.

What if my kid gets stuck?

This is genuinely the thing customers tell us we do best. Most other kits leave you on your own. We don't.

What if a part breaks?

Email us. We'll send a replacement free. We've done this for kids who broke pieces in week 6 and grandparents who lost components on a flight. No invoices, no proof required.

How is this different from a $40 Arduino kit on Amazon?

The components in a $40 Amazon kit are largely the same. How is this different from KiwiCo or similar STEM boxes?

KiwiCo is great for younger kids and finished, single-session projects. This is different.
